San Diego Surf Report: Con Edition Waves & Superhero Vibes (July 29–Aug 1)

Spoiler: Not the week to bring your shortboard — but beginner surfers and groms? This one's yours.

Today: Mush Patrol

Small, lumpy surf dominates the scene this today. Onshore WNW wind and fading NW/S swell means we’re topping out at knee-high, with mushy sections and little shape. Conditions are weak across Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and Mission.

Best Play: Skip the mid-day paddle and aim for first light tomorrow if you're hungry for water time.

Tomorrow 7/29: Small WAVE GEAR

Still tiny. Still soft. Still rideable… barely. We’re looking at a minor combo of southerly and NW windswell. Mostly sub waist-high unless you're sitting at a magnet like Scripps or Tourmaline.
  • Morning window: Clean

  • Midday: Onshore funk

  • Gear Rec: Longboard, foamie, or skip the session and book a lesson

Next Swell Incoming – July 31st - Aug 3 - San Diego Surf Report

The surf may be bottoming out now, but don’t ditch your stoke. A modest Southern Hemi swell starts creeping in this Thursday/Friday!!!!
  • Expect 2–3+ ft across OB, PB, and Mission

  • Bigger sets showing Sunday at 3–4 ft

  • Best window: July31st - Aug 1 for beginner‑friendly waves with shape

What’s Trending in San Diego

Because the only thing hotter than your sunburn this week is the search feed:

Comic-Con Crowds Are Breaking Sets

The Con is in town. The cosplay is thick, the traffic is thicker, and the Zombie Walk is definitely not checking for crosswalks.🏄‍♂️ Tip: Paddle into OB early to avoid I‑5 gridlock, or just pretend your soft-top is a shield against Thanos.

🏈 Deion Sanders Is More Prime Than the Dawn Patrol

Coach Prime is trending hard — and let’s be real, the man could hype up a waxed-up Costco Wavestorm. If Deion ran a surf lesson, we’d all be charging closeouts like it’s the Super Bowl.

“Look good, surf good, feel good.” – Probably Deion (if he surfed)

🌊 Sydney Sweeney Is Peaking (Literally and Figuratively)

The North County tide isn’t the only thing surging. Sydney Sweeney’s blowing up again — if the swell shows on Sunday, we’re calling it a full Sweeney Set™.

Pair a Sydney spike with a slow roller at Tourmaline = chef’s kiss.

⚾ Padres vs Cardinals — Battle of the Bored....riders

The Padres/Cardinals  wave is rising like a spring tide. Meanwhile, OB is full of shoulder-high Padres hats dodging soft lefts.

Not all heroes wear jerseys — some wear 3mm booties.

🏄‍♀️ Suggestion: Padres lost again? Go surf. It’s cheaper than therapy.

🧢 Manny Machado & Jon Jay Are in the Mix

Machado might be cold at the plate, but the morning surf window is heating up.Jon Jay sightings in SD are trending, and we’re wondering — has he ever tried a beach break at Scripps?

🏄‍♂️ City’s Loud. Ocean’s Chill.

So whether you're dodging Pikachus in the Gaslamp or Padres fans on the sand, the sea still offers peace.

Breathe in. Paddle out. Let San Diego be your reset.
